Supporting Educators with Sound
Celebrating Teacher Appreciation Day with Calm, Care, and Community Support
Teacher Appreciation Day always brings me back to my roots. Back to my mom’s dream of becoming a teacher. She taught to put herself through graduate school for counseling, but she never really left the classroom. When I was in 7th grade and my school’s PE teacher suddenly left, my mom stepped in. Not just as a stand-in, but as a force of joy, creativity, and structure - bringing her all to the classroom.
Her school-wide dance program was the shining star of the year. Decades later, people still approach me around Indianapolis to say, “Your mom was the best teacher I ever had.” That’s the kind of legacy teachers leave behind - quietly, daily, persistently.
With shrinking social safety nets and growing emotional demands, teaching has become harder than ever. And yet, teachers keep showing up. For their students. For their schools. For all of us.
When I first began leading sound meditation and nervous system regulation sessions, working in schools wasn’t even on my radar. But now? It’s some of the most meaningful work I do - offering calm, clarity, and restoration to those who need it most.
SO, why sound meditations for teachers?
Because sound is non-verbal, accessible, and profoundly effective. It bypasses the cognitive overload so many teachers face and goes straight to the nervous system—regulating, grounding, and recharging.
One school district’s wellness coordinator shared this with me:
“I’ve had the privilege of witnessing how impactful immersive sound experiences can be… These sessions offer a rare opportunity to pause, reset, and reconnect with a sense of calm. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing how much more grounded, focused, and cared for they feel afterward.”
Another teacher who attended her very first session recently reached out to share:
“Today was a tough day for me. Usually, I come home and scroll on my phone to disassociate. Today I’m home with no desire to even look at my phone - other than to look up your class and to send a HUGE thank you. This feels nothing short of life changing for me! Putting my phone down now to bask in this calm that is so rare for me.”
That’s the power of this practice - for teachers, for counselors, for bus drivers, administrators, aides… everyone who holds our schools together.
To every educator: Thank you. I see you. And I’m here to support your healing and wholeness, because your work matters more than most will ever understand. You're invited to a free sound meditation session on Teacher Appreciation Day, Tuesday, May 6th at 7:30pm in Broad Ripple. Come rest, reset, and receive - because you give so much, and you deserve this.
